What does Earth Day mean to me?

Happy Earth Day, Dear Sister!!

My name is Elizabeth & I am so excited to be stepping into this space & creating my first blog on such a special day. Not only is today Earth Day, but it is also a New Moon which brings us space to reflect, release, & make way for new ideas with a blank slate. So, here I am…offering myself to you as a way for you to be encouraged, inspired, & motivated to look within & listen to the powerful voice you have within yourself.

Here, at Womxn In The Pines, I am here to…

…help you break free from social norms & embrace your inner power. Using nature as metaphor, I hold space for self-growth, spirituality,& sisterhood.

Within us all, we have a longing to get back to our roots. We ache to break free from these constraints of social constructs & to be wild, free, & in our natural state. Our Wild Self is calling for us to embrace her.

And as it is with us, it is with Mother Nature as well.

As Clarissa Pinkola Estés says:

“Wildlife and the Wild Woman are both endangered species.

Over time, we have seen the feminine instinctive nature looted, driven back, and overbuilt. For long periods, it has been mismanaged like the wildlife and the woodlands…The spiritual lands of Wild Woman have, throughout history, been plundered or burnt, dens bulldozed, and natural cycles forced into unnatural rhythms to please others.

It’s not by accident that the pristine wilderness of our planet disappears as the understanding of our own inner wild natures fades. It is not so difficult to comprehend why old forests and old women are viewed as not very important resources. It is not such a mystery.”

Humanity is awakening to many things right now. And on this day, we take note that we have been forcing Mother Nature into unnatural cycles. The Earth naturally has four distinct seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer, Fall. Each season has a purpose, they are all interconnected & create one beautiful story. They create life.

Winter brings death, resting, & reflecting. Spring brings growth, imagination, & new life. Summer brings enjoyment, nourishment, & abundance. Fall brings shedding, releasing, & observing.

There is no way of getting around these seasons. Or is there? When we take a look at our modern world, we see that we are forcing seasons to happen when it isn’t time. In the middle of fall, we have fresh strawberries available in our grocery store. In the dead of winter, we are out & about - going, going, going. We don’t want that seasonal cold or flu to keep us home, so we take that vaccination or take that pill. In the spring & summer, we spray insecticides, pesticides, & weed killers to force nature to grow the way we want it to grow.

Because we always want more. We must obtain. We must get.

Or do we?

When we look at nature, we see that this is not how it is meant to be. It is not always summer. There is meant to be a cyclicality of life. And when we honor that & allow for the seasons to be what they are meant to be, Mother Nature works her beautiful magic & creates beauty & life. We do not have to obtain & work year-round.

There is space for rest. There is time to reflect. There is a place for growth.

So, what does Earth Day mean to me?

Earth Day reminds me of how beautiful the seasons are. Earth Day reminds me of what a masterpiece life is. Earth Day reminds me of myself. Earth Day reminds me of my cyclicality. Earth Day reminds me to allow.

This year, I am making a vow once again to Mother Earth that I will honor her as well as myself. I will allow her to be free & not forced, just as I am learning & creating the same for myself in my own life.

And this year, I make a vow to you as well.

I am here for you. Here on this blog, I will be diving into topics such as this. I will be discussing spirituality, feminine power, cyclicality of life, spiritual practices, emotions, self-growth, & so much more. You will see a mix of blog posts, poetry, how to’s, and mantras.
